Jilbert sale could shape, shake U.P. milk markets
When John Jilbert looked ahead five to 10 years, he couldn't see clearly where his company might be, and that bothered him.
"We've always been able to adapt, ever since my parents founded the business in 1937," he said. But we were at a standstill. We'd hit a wall. The business was doing fine, but we weren't growing. And in this business, you can't stand still."

Manure handling expo deemed a success
Despite near-record heat and rain that turned Bernie Thelen's wheat field soft enough to halt morning equipment demonstrations, the 2006 Great Lakes Manure Handling Expo near Fowler was deemed a success, according to Natalie Rector, Ph.D., Michigan State University field nutrient management specialist.

Peak 2006 apple harvest dates predicted
Apple maturity for 2006 is expected to be near normal in the southern part of the state to one week ahead of normal in the northern part of the state. Most of the state experienced an early end of a mild winter and periods of alternating hot and cold temperatures.
