Adam Putney
Farm Bureau honors Benzie County member for service, dedication
For the depth, breadth and quality of his increasing involvement in Michigan's largest general farming organization, Benzie County farmer Adam Putney has been named Michigan Farm Bureau's (MFB) Volunteer of the Month for August 2010.
Putney serves the Benzie-Manistee County Farm Bureau as its president and Young Farmer chair, and represents a seven-county district on MFB's state-level Young Farmer committee. Previously he has served on MFB's state-level Promotion and Education (P&E) committee and spearheaded local P&E efforts, including hosting in-service events at his own farm for teachers looking to enrich their classroom discussions of Michigan's prodigious farming industry.
A graduate of ProFILE, Farm Bureau's advanced leadership development program, the breadth of Putney's active involvement in the organization is extensive. He is actively engaged in developing Farm Bureau policy at the local level, and farther along in that process he has often represented the interests of Benzie and Manistee county farmers as a voting delegate at MFB's State Annual Meeting. In the political arena he's involved in vetting candidates for local and regional elected office, and personally lobbies state lawmakers at MFB's annual Lansing Legislative Seminar.
"Adam is active in all aspects of the county Farm Bureau," including being its top membership recruiter, wrote his nominator for Volunteer of the Month honors. "Adam is tireless in his commitment to the Farm Bureau organization, and is a strong advocate for agriculture."
Putney farms alongside his father and cousin, raising more than 1,000 acres of apples, cherries, hay, corn and beef cattle. He and his wife Jessica have three children: Philip, Piper and Frederick.
